What is Artful?

The 2023 Artful Art Prize is a free to enter national art competition open to all residents of Australia.

When does the Artful Art Prize 2025 competition open?

Submissions to the Artful Art Prize open on Tuesday, 1 August 2023 and close at midnight on Thursday, 31 August 2023.

Winners will be announced on Monday, 16 October 2023.

Who is behind the Artful Art Prize?

Artful is a collaboration between Achieve Australia and Accessible Arts. This art prize was created to celebrate everyone’s unique perspectives and experiences through the medium of art.

In 2023 Artful is a national Art Prize. Achieve Australia and Accessible Arts plan to build a series of online art workshops for 2024 to share with other organisations to inspire creative expression and participation in the annual Artful Art Prize. These workshops will be provided free of charge and will be uploaded to this website to download and use.

How do I take part in the 2023 Artful Art Prize?

You can take part in the Artful Art Prize by submitting an entry. The submission process is easy, just follow these 3 steps –

Step 1 – Create a piece of art

Step 2 – Take 4 photos of your artwork or create a short video of your artwork

Step 3 – Submit your artwork or artworks via this website.

 

You can enter in up to 3 categories as long as you submit no more than one artwork in each category.

Who is eligible to submit an entry for the Artful Art Prize?

The 2023 Artful Art Prize is open to all non-professional artists regardless of age, background, ability, or experience. You just have to be an Australian resident to enter.

What are the prizes in the 2023 Artful Art Prize?

Winners in each category receive a gift card valued at $1000. Each winner also receives a series of mentoring sessions with art professionals to take their art to the next level.

How will winner of the 2023 Artful Art Prize be exhibited?

The winners of each category of the Artful Art Prize will be exhibited in an online gallery on this website.

Who owns the artworks submitted for judging in the 2023 Artful Art Prize?

Achieve Australia Limited shall have perpetual, royalty-free license to use all entries, including the winning artworks, in marketing and promotions, for future Artful Art Prize competitions.

What do you define as a professional artist?

At Artful we consider anyone who makes their living from art to be a professional artist.

 

This includes art teachers who make their sole income from teaching art.

I have more than 1 artwork for a category, can I submit 2 artworks in one category?

You can only enter one artwork in each category. You can enter 3 artworks in the Artful Art Prize in 3 categories.

Will the judges be judging photos of the artworks only?

Yes, the purpose of Artful is to link community and art, so we want it to be accessible for everyone regardless of where they live.

 

Judging photos means everyone is judged on the photos they submit.

 

If the photos are not of high enough quality to be judged fairly, we will contact the artist and help them to upload alternate photos.

Why are you judging photos only?

We want everyone who submits an entry to Artful to be judged fairly.

 

Posting artworks could be costly and cause damage to the artworks in the delivery chain so we have decided we will judge photos only.

I am having issues uploading my photos to the website. Can someone help me?

Yes, we are aiming to help everyone who needs it. Simply email us at hello@artful.org.au with some information on what you are having issues with, and we will contact you. Let us know how best to contact you and if you would like us to call you, please make sure you include your phone number.

Can a group enter an artwork in Artful for judging?

Yes, we accept entries as a group. Should the artwork win a category the mentoring sessions will be provided in group sessions.

What do you define as a professional artist?

If you have received money or sold the artwork, it is no longer considered an amateur artwork so is not eligible for judging in the Artful Art Prize.

I am having issues uploading my photos to the website. Can someone help me?

Entrants can upload a maximum of 4 images (10 MB per photo) and/or video (50 MB per video)
